About Natural Decking Oils
When looking for a Natural Decking Oil there are two ways ‘natural’ can be interpreted:
- Natural Finish – a decking oil that once dry, produces a natural finish. And;
- Natural Ingredients – a decking oil that is environmentally friendly and made only from naturally occurring oils.
We have two products to suit these purposes and will discuss each oil we recommend for a Natural Decking Oil in this blog.
Decking Oil That Produces a Natural Finish
If you are looking for a natural finish that won’t alter the colour of the decking, a clear oil is your only option.
Our Clear Decking Oil is a blend of natural oils and resins that dry to a hard, durable, highly attractive satin finish that will never crack, peel or flake.
It will provide excellent water repellence, protect against sun damage and fading, and prevent the growth of mould, mildew and fungi, while enhancing the grain and restoring the natural beauty of the wood.
Due to being a clear oil, it will feed and nourish the decking timbers without altering the colour, so is ideal for hardwood decks where you want to show off the timber.

It is suitable for all types of hardwood and softwood decking, preserved or pressure treated decking boards.

- Drying Time: 4-6 hours
- Coverage: 25m2 per 5 litre tin
- Coats: 2 coats to bare wood

100% Natural Decking Oil
If you are conscious about using chemicals, then our Tung Oil is a great alternative decking oil.
Pure Tung Oil is a hard wearing, naturally derived oil, obtained by pressing the seed from the nut of the tung tree, and so is completely free from additives, solvents, dryers and thinners making it non-toxic and safe to use in all environments.
As well as being highly resistant to water, Tung Oil helps to prevent drying and deterioration of wood.
It's these traits which make Tung Oil a great natural decking oil choice for outdoor wood.
Tung Oil dries to a natural, matt finish and can be used on all types of wood (oak, teak, iroko etc), both hardwood and softwoods to enhance the natural beauty of the grain.
Not only is Tung Oil made from natural ingredients, but it also dries to a natural finish and so ticks both boxes for anyone searching for a natural decking oil.
Although Pure Tung Oil is easy to apply with a brush or cloth, it has a drying time of 24 hours, so it is important to choose a particularly dry day when oiling your decking.

Natural Decking Oil Summary
Tung Oil is more expensive and takes longer to dry than our Clear Decking Oil, but if being made from natural ingredients is a must, then Tung Oil is the natural decking oil for you.
Otherwise, our Clear Decking Oil is the best choice.
