Our Leather Colourants are polyurethane based and specifically formulated to flex with the leather while maintaining high resistance to cracking, scuffing or scratching. The Leather Colourants have a high pigment content, making them ideal for recolouring or changing the colour of any leather surface with only a few coats.

The Colourants are water-based and are non-harmful and non-hazardous.

Most importantly is their ability to resist scuffs and scratches. The Leather Colourants are extremely hard wearing and will not scratch unless very heavily forced.

Applications

The Leather Colourants are designed for restoring the colour and changing the colour of all leather items. The reason we recommend this colourant range over any other is the high rub fastness and scuff resistance characteristics: you will struggle to scuff or scratch them!

The colour holds and will not fade, flake, or peel, even after years of use. Not only are the colourants very hard wearing, but they also feel very soft and delicate. We add controlled amounts of softening agents into the mixture to give it a lovely smooth and soft texture. This also means it will not dry out over the years.

  • Easy to use: Can be applied by sponge, paintbrush or spray gun
  • Easy Clean: Just use water to wash out your spraying equipment or brush
  • Safe to use: Can be used in any environment
  • Originally developed to meet the high-performance requirements of the automotive market.
  • Great colour adhesion

Before applying our Leather Colourant, there may be necessary procedures and products to use to achieve a perfect and natural finish. Leather Finish should be applied afterwards for a strong and hard-wearing coating.

Colour Options & Colour Matching

All colours we supply are dispensed through our colour machine. This ensures that every time you re-order a colour from us, whether it is a standard or custom colour, that it is 100% accurate and a true representative of the previous colour. All matched colours are saved into a database, which means we can create a unique colour range for you or your company. This means you can re-order the same colour again and again by simply quoting the reference number on the bottle.

  • Database of over 10,000 custom colours to choose from.
  • 16 mixing colours to use to mix and match any colour.
  • Furniture and automotive database of pre-mixed colours for many retailers and manufacturers such as DFS, Alfa Romeo, Bentley, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes, MG and Rolls Royce.
  • A wide range of pre-mixed standard colours to choose from; best suited if you are changing the colour of leather.
  • Send us a sample so we can match the colour perfectly to your item, so long as it is larger than a postage stamp.
  • Accurate colour matching available using the most advanced technology to date. 100% accurate every time - guaranteed!

The Leather Colourant can be used to repair small damages to leather, as well as restore or change the colour of full items.

Colour Matching Made Easy

We use 16 base mixing colours, these mixing colours are primary, secondary and shade colours which can be mixed together to achieve any colour to match the leather being worked on. A Colour Matching Guide is available to teach you how to mix and adjust colours. Additional support and guidance can also be given over the phone if required.

Alternatively, we offer a wide range of pre-mixed colours as can be seen above. These colours are best suited when you are changing the colour of leather. If you try to use our Beige (B02) from the samples below to fix a small area of colour loss on your beige leather sofa, for example, the chance that our beige matches exactly the colour of your beige is very unlikely. This is because there are unlimited colours in the world, with millions of variations of beige. In this situation, if you do not prefer to colour match the colour yourself, we have a very competitively priced colour matching service. Simply post us a sample of the leather. You can see where to get a sample from in our guides. Whatever colour you need, we have a solution for you!

IMPORTANT: The colours shown here are dependent upon screen settings or monitor calibration, they are a guide only. The actual colour may vary.

Can the Leather Colourant be used on aniline (absorbent) leather?

Yes, our Colourants can be used on any type of leather. If you are looking to solely restore the colour to aniline leather, we would recommend using our Leather Re-Colouring Balm, as this is designed for absorbent leathers. If you are looking to change the colour, then our Leather Colourant would be best.

Will this rub off onto my clothes?

No. Once the Leather Colourant has dried, it is completely colourfast. This is then sealed in with our Leather Finish which gives further colourfastness.

Can I use the Leather Colourants on greasy/ oily areas of leather?

Yes, however before applying the Colourant the leather will need to be degreased. For this we recommend using our Leather Degreaser. This will remove any excess oils from within the leather, enabling the Leather Colourant to adhere to the leather.

It is also highly recommended that you use our Adhesion Promotor when colouring over an area which was greasy.

What is the difference between the Re-Colouring Balm and the Leather Colourant?

The Leather Colourant has been developed to colour any type of leather. It is however more suited for a non-absorbent leather (pigmented or top-coat) as it recreates the original surface coatings. Whereas the Re-Colouring Balm is predominantly used on absorbent leathers as it needs to penetrate the leather to work to its full ability.

What leathers can the Leather Colourant be used on?

Our Colourants can be used on all leather types and colour, with the exception of suede and nubuck. It is also safe to use them on vinyl and faux leather, including bonded leather.

Our Leather Colourants have been designed for use on leather, so when colouring vinyl or faux leather, we recommend using our Adhesion Promotor to grant better adhesion.

Are there any other products I might need to go with this?

Yes, there are specific products to be used in order to prepare the leather, and then products to seal the colourant in.

Leather Prep: This is used to remove any manufacture's finish; this is an important step, so your new colour and/ or repair products adhere properly.

Alcohol Cleaner: This is used after the Leather Prep and is designed to remove any leftover residue from the Prep.

Leather Finish: This is used after applying the Leather Colourant. This colourless finish seals the colour in, creating a long-lasting repair.

If you are a DIY customer, we would recommend using one of our Leather Colourant Kits as these come with all the products and know-how required to do this.

Can this be used on car interiors, specifically door cards which are vinyl?

Yes, our Leather Colourants can be used on all leather types, and all articles of leather, such as: furniture, car interiors, handbags, clothing and many more.

It is also safe to use on vinyl and faux leather. Our Leather Colourants have been designed for use on leather so when colouring vinyl or faux leather, we recommend using our Adhesion Promotor to grant better adhesion.

Can this be used to change the colour of leather?

Yes, you can change any coloured leather, to any colour you wish. From light to dark and even dark to light!

If you are a DIY customer, we recommend using our Leather Colourant Kit, as this comes with everything you need in order to complete this type of renovation.

Is the Colourant ready to use how it is supplied?

Yes, the Leather Colourant does not need to be thinned before use. If you feel the Colourant is struggling to get through your spray equipment, you can add up to 10% water.

Why can't the Leather Colourant be used on suede or nubuck?

Suede and nubuck have a nap / pile (a fine fibrous surface). These fibres become coated by the Leather Colourant, making the overall feel of the leather quite rough.
