This 3 seater leather sofa required a repair to a large tear to the back. Using the Leather Repair Kit, a canvas sub patch in place and then fixed in place. The large gap in-between was filled with Heavy Filler, in thin layers, and then colour applied with a sponge at first and then sprayed on. We used a leather colourant kit instead of the Leather Repair Touch Up Kit this time because the damage was larger than the area covered by a tennis ball.

This Chesterfield arm chair, through general wear and tear, had started to suffer cracking and splitting to the leather. The damage was filled using the heavy filler included in the Leather Repair Kit. When sufficiently filled the colour was then re-applied using a small antique finish kit (as chesterfields have both a base coat and a top coat of colorant).

This leather sofa had two cuts to the leather caused by a Stanley knife. Using the Leather Repair Kit the cuts were repaired and the colour restored using a small Leather Colourant Kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have training or experience to use this product?

Absolutely not, repairing damage to leather such as cracking, holes, cigarette burns, tears and cuts is a much easier process than you might think. The tools and instructions in the Leather Repair Kit and the easy to follow step by step instructional videos and repair guides available on our website have been designed to allow absolutely anybody to achieve professional standard repairs.

How long until I can use my leather furniture/items again after making a repair?

As a general rule we advise that you should not use the leather for 24 hours after making a repair, this allows time for the adhesives and the leather filler used in the repair to cure completely, giving a much stronger and longer lasting repair. Using your furniture before this will increase the risk of the repair splitting or coming away.

Do I need anything else to help hide a repair so that it blends in with the surrounding leather?

Yes, the leather filler included in the kit that will be used in most common repairs cures with a white colour, making the repair stand out from the surrounding leather. Even if the filler is not required, often the application of colourant matching the colour of the leather item is required to hide the repair effectively. In order to achieve a repair which is as close to invisible as possible we recommend the use of one of these products: the Leather Repair Touch Up Kit is used to match the colour of the leather item and then applied to conceal small repairs, where as the Leather Colourant Kit is used for the same purpose, but on larger areas of damage.

How long will my repair last?

While a repair can never be as strong as brand new leather, a good repair, following the instructions we have provided in our leather repair videos or guides, will typically last for many years, even on an area of high use, it is not uncommon that a well made repair can last for the remaining life of the item. However, if the original rip or tear occurred due to being clawed by animals or jumped on by children for example, and this occurs again after making the repair, it is likely that the repair will fail just as the original leather did. Good care and maintenance of your leather, both new and repaired, will always extend its life significantly.

Can I continue to clean and maintain my leather as normal after making a repair?

Yes, once the repair has been made and given adequate time to cure you can use our cleaning and protection products on your leather as normal, without fear of causing any problems to the repair. For the best results in both cleaning and protection for new and repaired leather we recommend our Leather Care Kit which combines our Leather Ultra Clean and Leather Protection Cream products, ideal for cleaning and maintaining all of your leather items.

Leather cleaning kit

I purchased the leather cleaning kit and used it as soon as it arrived, I purposely left a "dirty" area to see the difference, oh wow, I didnt realise just how grubby my 6 year old sofa was!!, its cream in colour and there is only two adults living here with the occasional children visiting and we use a blanket on the seated area to try and keep it clean but inevitably, we can't protect it 100% of the time but now we don't have to as I can clean it as and when I need to without worrying, thankyou for a great product, Im just about to purchase a stain remover for the unexpected mishaps :)

Yes, I recommend this product.
