About Decking Stain
Our Decking Stain is a highly concentrated, deep penetrating, oiled-based stain designed to work on all types of wooden decking. The Decking Stain is made from a combination of high-quality oils and pigment, which allows it to cover the colour of your existing decking in just one coat; saving you a lot of time when it comes to staining decking.
The Decking Stain colour is true and rich. When the stain is applied, you get the full colour in that first coat, and it looks just like it does on the label. Once our Decking Stain is applied, you’ll not only have decking that looks better but you’ll have saved a lot of time in staining it compared to similar products on the market.
Why use a Decking Stain?
Decking is exposed to all the elements outside that will slowly start to damage and rot the wood. Wind, rain, damp, dirt and mould will all attack the decking, damaging the wood and also stripping it of its original colour.
Furniture Clinic’s Decking Stain not only restores the colour but will also help to protect the decking from the elements. The oil soaks in and nourishes the wood (which does not happen when you use a water-based decking stain); and this keeps the wood hydrated and supple, but more importantly it stops rain and stains from soaking in. Without this protection decking can become damp and start to rot.
When the oils dry, they harden, giving the decking extra protection. This protects the surface of the decking from wear & tear, helping to keep its colour and finish for longer.

Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight between 10°C and 25°C.

Decking Stain Instructions
Our Decking Stain can be used on both old and new decking.
PREPARATION – NEW DECKING
Most new decking is slightly water resistant, and this protection could stop the oil from soaking in properly. To oil new decking, you need to first clean off the waterproof protection. Do this with our Decking Cleaner.
PREPARATION – WEATHERED DECKING
Clean the decking first with our Decking Cleaner to restore it to its original colour. This will remove all dirt and green staining caused by mould and algae; greatly improving the results of the Decking Stain.
PREPARATION – PREVIOULSY STAINED DECKING
Remove any loose, flaking or peeling old finishes from previously coated surfaces. Our Decking Cleaner and a good scrub should achieve this.
APPLICATION - APPLYING THE DECKING STAIN
Make sure the decking is clean and dry. Thoroughly shake or stir the Decking Stain.
Pour the Decking Stain into tray and apply with either a decking stain applicator or brush. Apply liberally following the direction of the grain.
Be sure to cover all of the wood, including any edges, for maximum protection.
Using the same applicator (with excess stain removed), or a clean applicator, wipe off any excess stain. The Decking Stain is designed to soak into and stain the wood, not sit on the surface like a paint, so it is important to ensure all excess is removed.
If you want to then darken the colour, apply a second coat of Decking Stain in the exact same way as the first.
DRYING TIME
The decking will be showerproof in two hours, depending on temperature and humidity conditions. Allow four hours drying time between coats and apply a second coat in the same way as the first, if needed.
CLEAN UP
Simply remove as much product from your brush as possible and then clean with white spirit.

Q. Do you do a clear decking stain?
A. Yes, our Clear Decking Oil is designed to nourish and enhance the natural colour of decking. It doesn’t change the colour like a decking stain does, so is perfect for those wishing to keep their decking looking as natural as possible.
Q. How many coats of decking stain are needed?
A. We have designed our Decking Stain to cover in just one coat of colour. This will save you time, but also reduce the risk of the stain peeling as this typically happens when too many coats of stain are applied.
Q. How do you prepare decking ready to be stained?
A. For full details, see the instructions section of this webpage. Generally, a good clean using a Decking Cleaner is all that is needed. But if your decking has peeling or flaking finish from previous applications of a stain then these should be brushed or sanded off first.
Q. Can you use your decking stain to stain fences?
A. Yes, it is an oil-based wood stain and so can be used to stain any type of wood, including fences.
