Shadow Finish has been developed through changing trends in the leather finishing market. More and more leathers are being coloured in the tannery using multiple colours to create two-tone effects. These effects can be enhanced by using transparent topcoats which bring out the richness of the colour in the leather which normal Leather Colourants cannot achieve.
Shadow Finish is a transparent coloured Leather Finish which can be used to restore the top colour to worn or faded two-tone leathers and is the perfect choice topcoat for antique style leathers such as that found on chesterfield furniture.
The colour can be built up in fine coats to subtly manage the colour restoration process, which enables you to blend the colour into the original darker topcoat without the need to apply a separate clear coat.
Shadow Finish can also be mixed with the Leather Colourant to adjust the translucency and hue of the colour to match the opacity of any given topcoat.
Available in ten colours; five common colours used for topcoats, and five mixing colours to match any required colour. Shadow Finish can also be mixed with our Leather Finish to lighten the colour if required. It is gloss as standard, and self-sealing, so there is no need to apply any Finish afterwards, unless you need to adjust the gloss level.

Shadow Finish Coverage and Shelf Life
6m² per litre depending on degree of transparency required.
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
Store between 8°C and 30°C.
Once opened, use within 1 year.
Clean and prepare the leather as normal before applying Shadow Finish, any repairs to the leather should be recoloured using Leather Colourant, matched to the base colour; this would be used to cover over any fillers or marks.
For best results, add Crosslinker Eco at a ratio of 1:8 (1-part crosslinker eco), apply Shadow Finish by spray application over the base colour. Multiple thin, even coats should be sprayed to build up the colour to the desired depth of colour needed, to blend into the surrounding top colour.
Shadow Finish is a leather finish and as such does not require ‘sealing in’ with the Leather Finish, however, as Shadow Finish is supplied as gloss as standard; you can apply Leather Finish after Shadow Finish to adjust the sheen to the correct gloss level to match the surrounding leather.
Please note that, due to batch differences, there might be slight differences in colour between bottles of the same colour. When using multiple bottles on a project, we recommend mixing them together before use.

Q. What’s the difference between Shadow Finish and Leather Colourant?
A. Leather Colourant can be compared to a paint; when applied to leather it is completely opaque. This covering power enables the Leather Colourant to be able to cover or ‘hide’ any natural imperfections in the leather or any fillers when repairing or restoring leather. Our Shadow Finishes are transparent colours, meaning that you can see through the colour. Once applied, the colour you see will be influenced by the base colour of the leather, this also means that they will not hide or cover any remedial work carried out with fillers.
Q. Can I mix Leather Finish with Shadow Finish?
A. Yes you can, in fact in some circumstances you may need to add Leather Finish to Shadow Finish depending on the colour of leather you are working on. When adding Leather Finish, it will lighten the overall colour of Shadow Finish enabling you to subtly build up the colour to the desired level when working on lighter two-tone coloured leather.
Q. Which Leather Finish should I mix into the Shadow finish if I need to; Gloss, Satin or Matt?
A. You can actually add any sheen of Leather Finish. However, we would recommend that the Gloss Leather Finish is predominantly used as it has the same sheen as the Shadow Finish.
Q. What does mixing Leather Colourant into the Shadow Finish do?
A. Mixing the Leather Colourant into Shadow Finish will increase the opacity of the product; it will reduce the richness of the colour. This can be useful when working on two-tone leathers where the original colour of the leather looks a little ‘milky’ compared to the Shadow Finish alone.
Q. The Shadow Finish seems very dark in the bottle, how difficult is to match the correct colour?
A. Shadow Finish uses dyes rather than pigments and as such will look much darker in the bottle than when applied to the leather. Colour matching Shadow Finish is slightly different to colour matching the Leather Colourant, but not too difficult. See this colour matching video for guidance.
