If you are not confident that you can match the colour of your leather, send us a sample of it and we'll match it for you. Please download and print this form, and attach a sample of leather to it. If you are not sure where to get a sample of leather from, read this guide.

Each kit contains:

  • 50ml Base Colour + 50ml white & 3 x 15ml tints
  • 15ml Alcohol Cleaner
  • 15ml of matting agent & gloss finish
  • Small sponge, cotton wool buds, mixing cup & stirrer
  • Step by step instructions

About the product

The leather touch up kit has been designed as a DIY repair kit that includes a base colour and several colour tints. You tint the base colour to match your leather exactly, e.g. if your leather is dark brown, you will get a dark brown base colour plus various tints, which cover the whole dark brown colour spectrum.

This allows you to get an exact colour match to your leather. Once you have the colour, you can then repair the damage;

Scuffs & Scratches:

For scratches just colour them in with a paint brush or cotton wool bud.  For scuffs, gently sand the leather to make smooth, then dab the colour on with a sponge.

Faded & Worn:

If the leather is rough, gently sand it down to make smooth. Then dab the colour onto the area and allow to dry.  For areas larger then a tennis ball in size we recommend using the Leather Colourant Kit to make the repair.

Stains & Spills:

Nail varnish remover and other strong solvents sometimes remove colour from leather, easily touch it up with a sponge or cover nasty hard to remove stains.

Custom Colours:

This arm of this leather sofa had suffered some colour loss due to nail varnish remover being spilled on to it. The colour was matched using the brown Leather Repair Touch Up Kit and simply sponged on to blend it in with the surrounding leather. Once it had dried, the damage had completely disappeared.

The bolster on the drivers side seat of this BMW Z4 had become scuffed due to wear & tear associated with use. The colour was matched easily using the red colour kit and sponged on to the leather over the damaged area. As can be seen, once dried the damage completely disappeared, leaving a seat that looks almost brand new!

Instructions

The first step is to match the colour. Specific instructions for colour matching are provided with each kit to help make matching the colour easier.  But we’ll give you a brief overview here so you know how it works.

Step 1.

Start off by applying a small drop of the base colour onto the leather with a cotton wool bud.

Step 2.

Let it dry then evaluate the colour.  If it is too dark, add a light colour (e.g. white) to the mix to lighten it, and so on. If it needs to be more cream, add a small amount of yellow or tan – you do this until the colour matches exactly. The detailed instructions provided with the kit tell you exactly what to do. You could also

Step 3.

Then, once you have a perfect colour match, you apply the colour onto the damage and wait for it to dry to make it blend in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have training or experience in order to use this product?

No, the kit is designed to be very quick and easy to use for everyone, regardless of experience or technical ability. The instructions provided with the kit are detailed but easy to understand and follow, specifically laid out to allow members of the general public to easily match the colour of their furniture and apply the product. In addition, for those who would rather order a matched colour directly, we offer a full colour match service.

How do I match the colour of my leather?

In the Leather Repair Touch Up Kit, you get a main base colour that is a general match to your item, i.e. dark brown or cream, and a number of tints that you can add to this in order to tweak the base colour in order to get it to match your leather. Detailed guidance on how to do this is included with the instructions provided with the Kit.

I would like you to match the colour and send it to me, how do I go about this?

We offer a colour match service for all of our products that include a colourant, simply complete in the form provided in this link, include a sample of the leather to be colour matched (A guide on where to take the leather for the sample from is available here) and send them both to the following address:

Furniture Clinic,
Unit 10,
Hobson Industrial Estate,
Burnopfield,
Newcastle upon Tyne,
NE16 6EA.

How long until I can use my leather furniture/items again after using this product?

Typically as soon as the finish and the colourant has dried completely, the item will be ready for use. Though as a general rule we advise that it is best not to use the item for 24 hours after a repair is being made, this gives time for the finish and colourant to cure properly before being subject to stress.

How long will my touch up last?

Most leather is coloured with a pigment and finish by the manufacturer in order to produce the item in the desired colour. By cleaning the area, and following the instructions to apply the colourant and finish, then giving sufficient time for it to cure, it is essentially as good as new. The results should last as long as the original leather would, providing the damage caused does not occur again after making the repair. It is not uncommon for 'touch ups' made with this kit to last for the remaining life of the item.

Can I continue to clean and maintain my leather item as normal after applying the product?

Yes, once the repair has been made and given adequate time to cure you can use our cleaning and protection products as normal, without causing any problems to the repair. For the best results in both cleaning and protection after making your repair we recommend our Leather Care Kit which combines our Leather Ultra Clean and Leather Protection Cream products, ideal for maintaining all of your leather items.

What is the difference between the Leather Colourant Kit and the Leather Repair Touch Up Kit?

The Leather Repair Touch Up Kit is specifically designed to cover smaller damage such as light scratches, scuffs, wear or fading etc, or small repairs made with the Leather Repair Kit such as a single cigarette burn or small hole. The Leather Colourant Kit on the other hand, comes in a range of sizes and is used where larger areas are being repaired, such as a surface with several areas of damage, heavy cracking on a seat cushion, or a complete re-colour on a car interior for example.

Amazing results!

This has to be the best product on the market today! The leather touch up kit came with everything I needed to repair my Lazy boy settee and recliner. The settee had unsightly patches where the dye had come off completely (a manufacturing fault which the furniture company would not take responsibility for) I emailed the furniture clinic with photographs attached and they replied immediately with advice and recommendations on how to repair the damage. It worked brilliantly and I was surprised at how easy it was to carry out the repair, you just need the nerve to do it yourself! My wife thinks that I'm a genius but in reality it's the product that's ingenuous, I've not told her that though! Great product, quick delivery and great customer service.

Repaired Audi TT denim blue interior

Truly amazing results on scuff seats especially on the bolster. Just sand with 800 grit, clean with the alcohol cleaner and then match the colour which is pretty easy. Apply a few coats and add finish if required. Unbelievable product.

Excellent Product

Highly recommended. It does what it says, provided you watch the video and abide by the instructions an excellent invisible repair can be achieved. Care needs to be taken to get the tint exact but with a little trial and error it's not difficult.
