This course is perfect for anyone with an auto detailing business wishing to offer leather care, repair and restoration as a service.
The first day consists of learning the tanning processes involved in making leather. This will allow you to better understand the how the substrate is coloured and finished originally. We outline the most common types of leather used for car interiors. We also look at other materials which can be found other than leather.
We proceed to show you how to correctly clean and maintain automotive leather and the benefits of protecting leather, before going through dye transfer and stain removal; in addition to showing you how to deal with stains which cannot be removed.
The course will show you how to cosmetically repair damage to leather; the correct preparation procedures, the correct products and methods used to remedy damage such as rips, scuffs, cigarette burns and wear holes.
The day will then progress to show you how to tackle damage such as worn bolsters, steering wheels and then proceed to look at complete interior colour restoration and colour change.
In addition to leather repair and restoration, we show you which products and procedures are best suited for dashboard and vinyl repairs. We even have products which will enable you to restore the colour to faded convertible soft tops.
To complete the course; on the second day we teach you how to colour match our Leather Colourants. This will round off your skills as a Leather Technician. Colour matching can be quite daunting; we don’t just show you methods, charts and systems; we introduce you to colour theory and how colours work with each other. You will learn about primary, secondary and tertiary colours and even complimentary or opposite colours, along with hue, shade and the saturation of a colour. You will learn how to identify and use these elements to be able to successfully match any colour of leather.

Our Technical and Training Manager at Furniture Clinic is Craig Stevenson. Craig is a fully qualified traditional upholsterer by trade. Craig has 21 year’s experience in the upholstery trade and over 18 year’s experience repairing and restoring leather, of which the last 10 years have been at Furniture Clinic.
With the decline of the reupholstery trade in general, Craig turned his eye to leather repair. Gaining experience working for numerous companies, he soon realised which leather repair products worked well and how to achieve the best results
After many year’s hands-on experience, Craig joined Furniture Clinic as an upholsterer, reupholstering client’s furniture. We soon realised that his knowledge and ‘on the job’ experience of leather repair and leather repair products was such that, together, we were able to improve our product range and techniques to produce what are today considered to be the best in the industry.Our training courses focus on a no-nonsense real-life experience approach to leather repair. We have had attendees who have been to other company’s leather training courses who have told us that they have learned more in one day with Furniture Clinic than they did over the entire training course of some of our competitors.
