Advice on changing the colour of a leather jacket

Postby brianfox on Wed Jul 28, 2010 7:36 pm

I am interested in purchasing a leather dye set to change the colour of a new leather jacket i bought (it is a dark red ... but a bit too bright and flashy red) ... wanted more of a darker colour (like an oxblood) ... spotted the dark cherry colour on offer and liked it ... watched the instructional video on the site and thought i'd give it a go (only worn the jacket twice - and got lots of bad comments about it - so am a bit self conscious of wearing it now!!) ... anyways .. when i went to the checkout it asked me what type of finish I wanted ... matt, satin or gloss ... what type of finish do you recommend?? I don't want a shiny look ... i want a dull worn look ... advice please before i buy ... Cheers

Hi,

Gloss = shiny
Matt = dull
Satin = in between

Most of the time I would recommend satin if you're unsure. Satin really just looks natural and is what most leather is finished in.

hope this helps

sweet! .. thanks for the advice ... satin it is ... been looking forward to 'getting my hands dirty' and dyeing and distressing/customising a jacket myself as a project - wanna at least try to at least get some wear out of it (coz it'll sit in a closet till doomsday if i don't) ... i'll take a few pics and post a few before, during and after pics if its anyway sucessful
