vinyl dye

Postby tdz840 on Thu Apr 29, 2010 4:06 pm

I have been using your products on leather car seats for a number of years now and Im impressed.
However recently I tried to recolour my vinyl arm rest which although succesful wore off very quickly. Is there a product you could recommend that could have a more permenant solution?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

The Colourant will stick to most vinyls, but some can contain far too much plasticiser and in these cases it won't adhere very well. Unfortunately there is no way to test this either!

We do however have a product called Adhesion Promoter (http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Adhesion_Promoter.htm), which if you apply to the vinyl first will make sure the Colourant sticks properly. The Adhesion Promoter makes sure that the Leather Colourant will stick to all vinyls.

Thats ideal as I have plenty of the colour matched dye left which is a very good match.
I presume the promoter is available to order on your web site or should I call?

Ben
Got the adhesive promoter that you recommended. Went to check the instructions on the back and it says you need to use a cross linker.
No-one recommended this including the guy I rang and spoke with mentioning you recommended this promoter.
Bit peeved as I have taken the panels to bits and wanted them complete tonight as I have a show tomorrow.
Can you use the promoter without the cross linker?
plus you only need to mix 10% and I only needed to buy 250ml of the promoter. The cross linker smallest size is 250ml (at £17 odd quid!!) and Im highly unlikely to use all this. Why cant the promoter be sold with the (Small bottle!!) X linker??

Hi Russ,

It won't make too much a difference since you're only doing an arm rest and not an area of very high wear & tear. The Adhesion Promoter should improve adhesion good enough on its own in this case.

Unfortunately Cross Linker X can only be supplied in the 250ml size + containers at the moment. The product is very reactice to light & water and so it can only be stored in a specific bottle type. The smallest that we have being the 250ml size.

I'm sorry you weren't told about the Cross Linker when ordering. That and the Adhesion Promoter are brand new products and so the staff arean't quite used to selling it. I have now made sure everyone is fully aware though.

You'll be fine with what you have.
